I think I may go 'poo free

Friend of mine is in the midst of 30 days with no 'poo (shampoo and conditioner)
I've done some reading about it
I think I might try it...
I'm almost out of my current s/c so seems like a good time

1. Use an old shampoo bottle (well-rinsed) or a squeeze bottle of some variety  Mix 1 part aluminum-free baking soda to 3 parts Water. Each time you use this solution, shake well to mix.

2. Squeeze the baking soda solution onto your dry scalp, then massage your scalp for several seconds.

3. Leave in for 1-3 minutes, and rinse completely.

4. In an old shampoo bottle (well-rinsed) or a squeeze bottle, mix 1 part Organic White Vinegar to 4 parts Water. You can add essential oils or herbs if you like - or add 1 cinnamon stick (which lasts through several bottles of mixture) and 1/2 t vanilla. This masks the vinegar smell, and leaves your hair smelling spicy and lovely.

5. Leave on hair for several seconds, then rinse.

I Want You...

Actually, I want your bottle caps!
Inspired by an ubercool cottage's kitchen floor, we're going to "tile" the inside of our window (that's not a sil, what's it called?) with bottle caps!
You may recall the painter's tape issue from a previous post...well, this seemed like a GREAT solution and carries on our theme of recycling things we have!

So...if you have any superfluous bottlecaps, or you'd care to join the cause and start getting bottled drinks...send me your email in a comment and I'll send you my addy!

Crafty Kitchen

The hub hung my herb shelf/curtain rod last night so it was time to figure out curtains
The kids and I went back to the original inspiration (Gutsav's Klimpt)
and remembered the mustard designs I drew on lil b's curtains when she was a wee one (we still have those curtains...they've since been camo'd and are now in Reed's room).

So, while in the kids' bathroom this morning I noticed a single sheer panel I had from a previous window incarnation and noticed it had stitched square spirals, which I thought was a nice twist on the swirls. It started out a white panel, so I used this morning's coffee grounds and soaked the panel to a a nice shade then traced the stitched spirals with french's yellow mustard.
I'll cut the panel in half and add some brushed aluminum grommets and they'll be the perfect length for the remaining 2/3 of the window and the wash out from the mustard swirls will mimic the mottled look in the original painting :)
And have I mentioned the cool new ceiling fan? it matches the shapes in my funky backsplash tin.
Stay tuned!

Sunshine for Breakfast

We're 99.9% there
I hope to have 100% by the end of the week but there are still some final pieces to acquire so I'd settle for the end of the month...which really gives me an additional weekend

unfortunately...the lesson learned today is "not all painter's tape is created equal" ughhhhh... for now I'm being lame and letting the curtains cover it but when I finish the soffit above the cabinets, I'll touch it up. I think I may decide to do something funky inside the window...maybe bottle caps or milk jug caps.

It's okay to be scared

It's okay to be scared
which is a good thing
because I am officially scared
I'm also faithful and trusting
but human so the tears almost fell
then I saw this
popping out from under our non blooming azaleas

I just finished paying all of our bills for the month of April
downgrading our services with some of our service providers
and still have to finish our federal and property taxes...but I don't have to do that today so i'm taking a breath
It's a lot to handle
this one income family thing
I'm not scared but I am
I'm constantly praying and my constant prayer has been strength and trust
in fact, that's the mantra I fell asleep to the night before my hub lost his job
I thought it was in reference to the dog drama
turns out it's probably for something more
I do trust...and I guess we're feeling pretty strong
and you know...it is a blessing to have been able to pay for everything and have left over
definitely could have been worse
it's not worth fretting about future financial burden (taxes, dog, etc) since we truly only have today and today is good
so today, my Spirit is bigger than my flesh but my flesh sure is trying...

He is my strength and my salvation whom have I to fear?
And in His secret place I'll hide and pray that I might hear a simple word.
Oh how I would have despaired if You had not come found me there
I can lean against Your throne and find my peace
Find my peace.

And when my enemies draw near I pray that they might find
that I'm protected and secure all tempers He will bind
with a mighty Word

Oh how I would have despaired if You had not come found me there
I can lean against Your throne and find my peace
I can lean against Your throne and find
Lean against Your throne and find
Lean against Your throne and find my peace

Profffoffop

That's my new Deaf name
I visited my dad today and told him the news...I'll be an adjunct teacher at the community college starting next semester.
I told him he could start referring to me as Professor Popoff
and that (see above) is what he came up with
heh heh
I love it

J'aime lire les blogs français

Yes I do!
I just started clicking the "next blog" tab and realized there are many more foreign bloggers than their are english bloggers...well at least that was my luck in my blog roulette

Oh how I love pouring over the french blogs
I still remember quite a bit from my college classes...not enough to make sense of an intricate blog posting but enought to hear the words in my head...what a fabulous sound

I think I want Rosetta Stone for French
I miss it
sigh

lyrics to a country song

lost my dog
lost my car
AC quit runnin
and I'm headed to the bar

Truck just stalled
Ex wife just called
it won't quit rainin
and I feel black-balled

my hub COULD be singing these lyrics today
but he's not...he's excited about the new venture in his life
me too
Adversity isn't always adverse!

Singing Crystal

We went to mini b's Regional Pop Warner Scholar banquet tonight
good food...Baaaad presentations. I swear the Boomers that put these together forget that KIDS are there and it's for the KIDS.
She rocked her new hair style
the boys looked very handsome although several people frowned at their jeans
but that pales in comparison to the looks I got for my tats
I felt rather "pin up-esque" in my sundress with my tats all out and my betty boop lips :)

so 3/4 of the way through someone at our table started trying to make their glass sing ...a la Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality

We got the other folks at our table to try, then decided to calm down
then...riiiiiiiiiiiing, the little girl at the table behind us tried it

then....ooooooooooooooo....the girls at the table next to us tried it

we really wanted to get everyone going but we still have another banquet to go to next month and don't need to piss anyone off before Bry gets her National scholar award.

We talked about how proud we were of her tonight...
I think the reason I'm the MOST proud is because she will be honored as an All American First Team Scholar. There are only 25 other 5th grade girls across the nation that will receive that same honor...but lil b didn't do anything special
She was just lil b
we didn't know this scholarship was an option
we just filled out the paper work...her grades, her participation, her projects...
and now she's in the top 1% of all 5th grade Pop Warner cheerleaders in America
just for being lil b

that's pretty damn cool!
pics later
:)
