Way Down Upon the Suwaneeeeeee River

Our Family camping trip
5 days upon the Suwannee River...yes I know you're singing already!

What's Your Waiting Strategy?

I delivered my second message this past Sunday...First Sunday in Advent.

It's interesting watching the playback and learning my "preaching style."
I'm definitely more of a storyteller than lecturer...I think I'm okay with that but I'm sure I'll go through several "styles" on my journey to ordination...

I'd love to hear your thoughts so comment away!

curb appeal

so rather than buy myself a new cd or book for each of my "self-milestones" I've been working on the front of the house.
I painted the door red a few months ago...and have been gradually adding flowers, plants, trimming back bushes...my patchouli cutting from several posts back is now quite a healthy, vibrant, LARGE plant (under the "Home" sign)...I'm thinking of starting some new cuttings and sharing the patchouli love...

Well today I purchased paint for the shutters and a new door handle for the front entrance...
here's a before pic
I'll post afters once the work is done....

CRAZY LITTLE MOMMA COME A KNOCKIN',
COME A KNOCKIN' AT MY FRONT DOOR, DOOR, DOOR;
CRAZY LITTLE MOMMA COME A KNOCKIN',
COME A KNOCKIN' AT MY FRONT DOOR, DOOR;
CRAZY LITTLE MOMMA COME A KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCKIN'
JUST LIKE SHE DID BEFORE.

Is there REALLY double the stuff in a Double Stuf Oreo?...

ice cold milk and an oreo cookie
they forever go together in a classic combination
when a dark delicious cookie meets the creamy cold sensation
it's a chore to be mature when you're crunchin an O R E O

Love Yourself as Your Neighbor

This is my first crack at a "real" sermon delivered on a Sunday in front of folks sitting in a "church"
I'm currently discerning the call on my heart to preach and the place my family and I currently worship is an AWESOME, forward thinking, progressive community that is REALLY encouraging. Pastor Linn is helping me along with my journey of discernment and I'm currently exploring becoming a student in-care.

I'll post my various experiences and attempts...feel free to comment away, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain from your thoughts :)

Blog lurker beware...

I got a new camera as an "early" Christmas present
Saturday, we managed to capture 222 family memories that might otherwise have gone with the start of the new day

not to worry...I won't post ALL 222 but some highlights include:
Bryana's homecoming game (she had to walk with TWO football players...look closely, they're not ACTUALLY touching)
Forrest's first night time lacrosse game
Target practice
and pics just because I could

I felt sooo alive
I forgot how much I love creating photos
even the hub noticed how much fun I was having!

photos coming soon :)

Monk Crossing

Peace is flowing like a river
Flowing out of you and me
Flowing out into the desert
Setting all the captives free we live near a Buddhist temple
it backs up to the trail where I walk the dogs each day
we were out later than usual Thursday morning
and came across the Monks on their morning stroll
for some reason...couldn't get this song out of my head after passing them

Weeping Buddha

He weeps for our country!

Courage is waning. Fear prevails.

Intolerance grows. Innocent children die in the womb.

There is no shame. Our country dies.
And the Buddha weeps.

And many of us around the world also weep,
and pray, and act.

You're just like crosstown traffic

So hard to get through to you

Crosstown traffic

I don't need to run over you

Crosstown traffic

All you do is slow me down

And I'm tryin' to get on the other side of town

Family Game Night

Across these fields, across this town
Standing up on solid ground
I won’t be broken, I won’t be silent
I’ve heard the lines and I just don’t believe or buy it
I will not be ashamed, walk away or shift the blame
I’m right here inside my shoes
Saying “I will not be moved.”

I’m still standing
Lets get it straight, let’s make this clear
I’m still standing, I’m still standing here

I'm Still Standing - Carrie Newcomer
yes...it happened to be playing on the iPod while we were playing jenga...seemed a fitting soundtrack :

Good Night Bush

In the situation room

There was a toy world

And a Flight Costume

And a Picture of -

A Refinery Plume

And there were profiteers giving three cheers

A nation great

A Church and State

A pair of towers

And a balance of powers

A Grand Old Party to war in a rush

And a quiet Dick Cheney whispering Hush

~Excerpts from Good Night Bush by Eric Orlgen and Gan Golan~

My Beautiful Girl

This Emo Girl is beautiful

She's got the rings and glasses

And all she wears

Says miles about her

But through it all

I still care about that Emo Girl

The Harvest (a.k.a. Salsa Garden 2.0)

I don't mind the sun sometimes
The images it shows
I can taste you on my lips
And smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary
And softly spoken lies
You never know just how to look
Through other people's eyes
Pepper by the Butthole Surfers

We're ready for the tomatoes, habaneros, cubanelles and sweet peppers...but we're very proud of the magna cum laude peppers in our garden! The Cayenne, The Banana and the Jalapeno!

Happy Birthday

Fly me out the window.
Somewhere far away
News on the radio,
Happy Birthday,
Happy Birthday,
Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday by Concrete Blonde
I don't know what started the tradition...but I LOVE to listen to Happy Birthday by Concrete Blonde on my birthday.
It's one of those peppy songs with a hook...but it's really kinda dark and I never realized that before... well...maybe when I was drinking and smoking it didn't seem so dark...but metaphorically I guess it's saying regardless of what's going on it's my Birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY :)
And when I grow up I STILL wanna be Johnette Napolitano!

Bubble and Squeak

Bubble and squeak and jumble sales, little richard and jerry lee
Bonfire night and south and that's paddlin' in the sea
Polished brass and copper, salvation army bands
Violins and old coach inns and colored elastic bands
Tea in the mornin' and winter beginnin' and fishin' lines
And frogs and spurs are winning
Yes that's what i like
Hey, that's what i like

"that's what i like mick" ~ Tori Amos
It's okay if it's not funny to you...
some where out there Judy, Lori, Leann and Jennifer are laughing...LOUDLY
so Loudly in fact that people are moving away

If I Can Make it There...

They say the Neon Lights are Bright on Broadway

Someday I'll make it there!
so I tried to cram...
but I learned that everything I needed was already inside of me
...And I won't quit till I'm a star on Broadway

Spam Spam Spam Spam

And so, King Arthur gathered his Knights together,

bringing from all the corners of the Kingdom the strongest and bravest in
the land to sit at the Round Table.

The strangely flatulent Sir Bedevere,

the dashingly handsome Sir Galahad, the homicidally brave Sir Lancelot,

Sir Robin the Not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot,

who slew the vicious Chicken of Bristol and who
personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill.

And the aptly named Sir Lunchbox-Making-A-Special-Appearance-in-the-Show.

I was hoping you might change your mind

I remember a soldier sleeping next to me
